Really a 'kasadyaan' event for the CAS-ED

The students and faculty of the College of Arts & Sciences and Education celebrated their college day tagged as "CAS-EDyahan 2004" last August 6 with the theme, "CAS-ED on the Threshold of Excellence". It was a day of soiree and triumphs for the three teams as they competed in the various sports events, academic, and socio-cultural events. The Search for Mr. & Ms. CAS-ED 2004 highlighted the occasion.

Despite attempts to sabotage the order of the events [a 1 hour blackout interrupted the opening ceremony], the activity ran as smooth as it was expected. Students alike are seen in an active pace, activities are simultaneous that not a single student is caught idling for a moment [yeah right]. Teachers, as well, are actively involved as they were given committees to work with. With this camaraderie existing between the students and faculty, a brighter future and success is foreseen for the CAS-ED in future activities and programs.

Three teams, namely: College of Sciences (Red Team), College of Education (Blue Team) and the College of Nursing (Black Team) competed in the Basketball, Volleyball, Baseball, Football, Badminton, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Chess, Dart, Swimming, Athletics, Bowling, Billiards and Marathon. Also included are Academic Quiz, Ethnomodern Dance, Solo-Singing Contest, Popular Dance, Dance Sports and Cheerleading Contest. In the Search, the gymnasium was evidently jampacked with spectators whose throats were definitely wrecked due to excessive screaming and shouting. And yes, how could I forgot, it was really a parade of beauty but I was really bothered by the way some of the candidates reacted to simple, situational questions that a person in his normal state could correctly answer. [Oh, maybe because they were trembling on stage, their brain cells were apparently influenced by their shaking knees]. But yes, I enjoyed the Search and I somehow salute for being as they are, they were really confident.

Congratulations to Maverick Farnazo, Reuben Panal, Michael Legayada, Aileen Abella, Renaflor Gragasin and Krystal Joyce Bedia. Congratulations also to the winners in their respective events. We are sure to see quality activities such as this in the future. I hope that the Intramurals would be more than successful but overwhelming successful.

Super Idol

SHAKING HANDS with the poor
Everywhere
He tours

...and they can sing
His songs, they have
His voice

"They know for whom they are."
Singing with no microphone
Very much game.

The quivering tonsils
Reach for his pitch
...and what is missed is

Carried over

By the echo
Of their arching limbs.
Those desperate
Gestures to the sky.

The voice that even he
Mouths to:
Open and close

Open. The air is his
Tonight.

Never will he ever
Have those hands.
